I am spending the summer with my kids. I started staying at home May 17th with Jake and while I am working some each day, things are finally slowing down.
On May 17th, Jake and I went to Sweet Berry Farms, it was fun, a goat climed into a tree - which was fun to see. The tour we had was bilingual, so working on my Spanish is always a treat. We got to put a lady bug on a leaf, Jake will pick up any bug just about but did not want to have anything to do with the lady bug. So he held the container and dumped the lady bug on the leaf, he enjoyed watching it immensely.
Late last week Marie discovered a birds nest right behind our hose. The birds were house wrens and even the Mom was super tiny. Marie discovered the birds next I think the very day they hatched, the tiny birds weren't moving much and they were slick and wet. Marie cried and cried saying "They are so cute" and then a bunch of sobbing, then another peak at the baby birds and then another exclamation about how cute they were . This went on for at least 10 minutes. She was truly moved.
It was fun to watch our baby birds grow, Jake and I would sit in the car each day this week and watch the Mom bird go back and forth from sunrise to sunset ALL DAY long feeding the birds. Two days ago the baby birds were fluffy and looked much bigger, at least twice the size of when we first saw them. And now they have left their nests.
Jake and I also planted a giant pumpkin, which is supposed to grow to be bigger than he is. We have it in a pot but hope to transplant it to the garden soon.
He also built a model airboat, he assembled it, glued it, painted it and is having an enormous amount of fun pretending to fly it around - the propeller really spins with a rubber band.
I am also VERY happy to say that this week a new Dinosaur train has started on PBS, at 9am every day Jake asks me is it almost time yet, and I say 30 minutes, then 29 minutes, he asks constantly. This is a great motivation to get him to work on his homework - he has been studying and learning every single day and I am very proud of how focused he is. He knows if he does a good job studying then he gets to watch dinosaur train!
I also love doing science experiments with the kids and have time to plan and do them now. The best one we did so far is the water cannon. We had Kirk and Ben over to watch. If I get highly motivated, I will post how to do it.
We also made home made french bread - yummy!!
Off to the Zoo today, I have a planned scavenger hunt and a bunch of books we are going to read at certain spots for story time. Jake totally got the concept and rain upstairs to get his book on trains, he said if we were going to read about things at the Zoo, they we could read about the train too, since there is a train there! We are going with some friends today, always good for Jake to play with other kids. We also have Marie's celebration of the end of Kindergarten today, before our trip to the zoo.
What a total hoot!!!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
